The best small bizz & Aussie made Christmas Decorations

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas?? It’s been ten years since I moved to Australia, and I still can’t get used to Christmas in summer! I miss the snow, gluhwein, and frozen noses and fingers…. It’s the only time of the year where I feel homesick and I miss my family terribly.

This year will be a bit different, as my mum is coming to visit us from The Netherlands. And because we have our little son in our life. It’s for him that I want to start a Christmas tradition; to give him what I always felt with Christmas…. Love, warmth, and the feeling of belonging.

I have such fond memories of my sister and I picking up a Christmas tree with my dad. My mum who would complain it’s too big (which it usually was, so we had to cut off a part to fit it in the house) and decorating the tree and the rest of the house with lots and lots of cute decorations. Many of which had a story behind it. Christmas was my favourite time of the year, I felt so connected to my family.

This is what I want to give our son as well, which is why I started to look around for some lovely decorations I could purchase for his very first Christmas….

So without further ado, here is my personal hot list, of small Aussie Bizz that make beautiful Christmas decorations.

Bear and sparrow

Make Christmas this year extra special with Bear and Sparrow’s divine reindeer trug. Heirloom quality, to last for many Christmases and to be handed down, this scandi inspired trug is the perfect way to gift Christmas Eve presents, for Elf on the shelf to arrive in, or to even use to decorate the Christmas table. Australian made from top grade hoop pine plywood, this trug is 27cm long, 26cm high (to the top of his antlers) and 14cm wide.

Tleaf

Tleaf has a large collection of custom Christmas decorations, such as Family star drops and Christmas plaques. My favo items are the Custom Etched Christmas baubles, the Santa stop here Plaque and Christmas drop. All products are perfect as a keepsake, special gift or to hang in the house or from your tree. They are handmade in their Brisbane studio using premium Australian plywood and includes white kangaroo leather strings.

Bon Maxi

For something a little different, and with a bit more colour you can’t go passed Bon Maxi. They make a supercool Christmas garland in either retro (blush) or neon colours and have personalised acrylic stars as well. The stars are available in many different colours and the names are gold etched text.

Nest accessories

Nest accessories might be best known for their super cool personalised Santa Sacks, which sell out in seconds. But they have more cool items that are worth checking out. I love their Christmas countdown banner and their custom Christmas ornaments. The laser cut bamboo banner and comes with 12 individual numbers to change each day. A great way for the kids to see how many more days there are until Santa comes. It measures 20cm x 16cm and you can choose from a range of colours options (or leave natural). The ornaments are also from bamboo and can be customised by choosing a specific font and colour. It also features two fun handmade pom poms in your choice of colours.

Dove and Dovelet

Dove and Dovelet have multiple items in their Christmas range. I ordered two of their items, and I am sure Benji will love them as much as I do. The Wooden tree contains a bell that rings when rolled or gently shaken. A stunning addition to a woodland nursery. Or the perfect first Christmas keepsake.

The other piece I ordered is their Christmas Ornament keepsake. The Wooden ball with natural cotton cord measures 6cm in diameter and opens with a firm pull/twist. I can imagine how we put a special little gift in this ball each year.

Both the tree and ball are made from linden wood left in its raw state (sealed with balm not varnish) and will age beautifully.

Most people know Noc Noc from their fantastic rattles and stacker rings. A must-have for every little bub! Specially for Christmas they designed two sets of personalised blocks. You can choose from a set of First Christmas and Merry Christmas. These limited edition Personalised Christmas blocks are the perfect commemorative Christmas gift. Each set comes in its own organic cotton drawstring bag.

Zilvi

Zilvi has a very large collection of beautifully designed Christmas decorations. It was very difficult to choose what my favourite items are… There are two pieces that stood out for me. Firstly is the ‘Wish ornament’. Made of raw timber, it has a tiny glass bottle included for your child to write a wish to Santa on a tiny piece of paper. How cute is that? The other item I love is the Best friend Heart. Which you can order in gold mirror acrylic or raw wood. You can have the two-half heart with B (best) F (friend) on there, or choose the initials of your names.

Lastly, I want to point out these lovely ornaments handmade from Douglas timber. There is a heart, tree and bird. They can be purchased raw or dip painted and are sold locally in the Hornsby area. If you wish to purchase these you can contact Shani Brightwell via her personal Instagram page.

As these products are all handmade by small businesses and the production time is anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks. To guarantee delivery before Christmas most shops will finalise their custom orders around mid November. Please check the individual websites for more accurate information.
