The ultimate playgym

Let’s talk play gyms…

Let’s be honest, they are absolutely great for bub (and therefore for parents too) but often they are so ridiculously ugly. I don’t want to be too much of a pain in the butt, but I needed one that would not only be functional but also look the part. All those store-bought play gyms definitely didn’t meet the criteria- the amount of cheap, bright coloured plastic made me want to cry!

I searched all over internet, Pinterest and Instagram and couldn’t find what I was after.  There are tons of handmade play gyms out there, but with many of them I had my doubts about the quality of them. After all we don’t want the thing to collapse on bubba, or for bub put toys in their mouth that contain toxic glues or paints….

I searched and searched (and searched and searched a little more) I asked the help of my Instagram community and then, voila I found Mioplay.  Yes! I found it! The play gyms, of all play gyms. Or, to be precise, I should call it an Interactive Mobile.

The Mioplay is made with lots of love by founder Jacqui. It started when her sister fell pregnant and Jacqui was trying to find the perfect gift as an aunt. She wanted to give something that would support her nephew to develop himself. Something that would make him, and his parents happy… Unfortunate she couldn’t find the, in her eyes, ‘perfect’ gift…

This nephew of hers is one lucky boy, because Jacqui is not only his aunt, but is also a Product Design Engineer! And if this Engineer can’t find what she wants, she designs it!

And that is the beginning of Mioplay. A beautiful crafted interactive play gym created by both Jacqui and a Behavioural Neuroscientist. Let’s say it this way; everything of what the play gym is, how it looks, and what it does, is on purpose. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the most thought about child development products out there.  The Mioplay is not just stunning, it is “designed to enhance the physical and cognitive development of your baby through sensory stimulation and dynamic cause and effect learning, essential for all newborns.”

The frame is made from Birchwood and the sensory toys are from 100% non-toxic silicone.  It doesn’t just look pretty, it’s also very safe for your little bub. It complies with AS/NZS ISO safety toy standard, which means that is has passed all Australian and New Zealand tests. I will talk about these standards in a separate post, but basically it means your baby can’t choke on any of the items. It passed the push over test, even when on a sloping surface, and your bub won’t be able to strangle itself with the straps. Of course, you will still need to supervise your little one while they are playing. A toy is not a nanny after all.

It’s great to know that I’m letting bub play with something that is safe and is going to help his sensory stimulation, but… I also just like the fact that it is so pretty! It fits perfectly in our home, and almost looks like a sculpture.

I also really like the fact that you can remove the toys from their straps and give them a wash (or use them without the mobile as a teething toy). All the animals look adorable, and it’s hard to say which is my favourite…. The mobile comes with six sensory toys in lovely pastel colours. You can also purchase additional sensory teething toys separately. So, if you wish you can create a mobile in one colour, or with one animal in various colours. It’s totally up to you!
